Summer News 2021 - 2022

A still summer evening at Mana Marina // Te Herenga Waka o Mana

What a year of uncertainty and adjusting to change! Despite this, we have been able to tick off most of the planned work and the Marina is in very good shape. We have been kept busy in the Office coping with a full Marina and a recent upsurge in short-term rentals as travel restrictions ease. I am looking forward to the chance to relax and recharge and enjoy the summer break and I wish the very same for all of you.

— Neil, Marina Manager

AGM

The AGM for Licence holders was held on the 23 November 2021. The Board presented the financial statements and reviewed the past year. The meeting approved the Annual and Five-year plans that included goals to gain ‘clean marinas’ certification and establishing a sustainable method of maintaining entrance channel depth for safe navigation.

COVID Traffic light Orange and Mana Marina

Mana Marina is an open venue with public access. We are unable to control or limit entry to most parts of the Marina so there are many possible areas for marina users be in contact.

This means we must rely on individuals doing their bit to keep to the official guidelines.  More information on the official guidelines.

We strongly encourage all Marina users to be vaccinated as this is the best way to protect yourself and others against COVID-19.

Under the traffic light ‘Orange’ system we have chosen to designate the inner Marina Office as a “My Vaccine Pass Area”, so have your pass available for checking before you enter the inner office. We appreciate it is a hassle, but please wear a face mask and scan the QR code if you come to the Marina office.  We still find it hard to wear our mask and close the ‘stable’ door, so remind us if we get slack!

So please:

  • Come to the office only if is necessary

  • Check you have your mask on as you climb those stairs!

  • Don’t enter the inner office area unless invited in. Please give us time to come to you, put on our masks and check vaccine passes, if necessary.

  • We will advise of any changes to the Mana Marina COVID policy if the status changes.

Office holiday hours

The office will be closed on the statutory holidays and will be on reduced hours during the holiday break. Normal office hours will resume Monday 9 January 2022.

For afterhours emergencies please call Neil on 027 2330111.
If non-urgent, please email office@manamarina.co.nz or leave a message at 04 2330091.

Warm fuzzy

We received a lovely email from a skipper who visited the Marina this week:

“Good morning, Neil, we slipped away just after 0700hrs yesterday and had a good trip across to Havelock ……..Thank you for your help and the access card. Over the years I’ve visited many different marinas around the country on deliveries and Mana rates at the top – clean and tidy, good lighting all around. Marina is well set up and apart from operator error using the fuel card – all went well. The shower/washroom facilities were clean and tidy with excellent shower pressure!”

Friendly Reminders

Gardens

A big thank you to Annette Wakefield and Penny Gorman, who keep the gardens looking beautiful, and to Graeme Kelly for keeping the lawns pristine.

Dog owners - Scoop the poop

When out walking your dog for nature to call, make sure to use the doggie doo doo bags from the dispenser in front of C pier. I have recently seen poop left on the lawn which isn’t nice for Graeme to have to clean up prior to mowing.

BBQ area available for Marina users

You are welcome to use the BBQ to relax and enjoy those famous Mana Marina sunsets. Andrew has just topped up the gas bottle, the Pohutukawa are Christmas red, so all is ready for you.

Reduce your speed and wake

Take a look at this neat YouTube clip created by the Northland Regional Council, reminding us to all reduce our speed to reduce our wake - Reduce your wake

Boaties Magazine

The latest edition of the Boaties magazine is available at the Office, please help yourself.

Thefts from Vessels and Marina piers

Our recent email reported that brazen thieves are active in the Marina.

You can help yourself by:

  • Photographing equipment and recording details such as the serial numbers

  • Checking your vessel regularly

  • Reporting thefts/incidents to Police and the Marina Office

  • Secure your valuable outboards, keep tenders on board and locked away

Plugging into Shore Power

Sockets and circuits are damaged when plugs are not connected properly, so we wish to reinforce the importance of plugging in correctly.

When plugging in, please always:

  • Test the RCD

  • Turn off the power by pressing the RCD ‘test’ button
    before plugging in

  • Insert the plug fully into the socket

  • Engage the locking ring

  • Turn on the power switch and reset the RCD

CORRECTLY plugged in — fully inserted with locking ring in place.

NOT CORRECTLY plugged in — not fully inserted and locking ring not in place which is likely to cause damage.

In Memory

Sadly, we have lost friends this year, and we think of their families at this time. We remember:

Brian Gray

Take care

Summer conditions

Slip, Slop, Slap! Keep covered and wear sunscreen to prevent any nasty red lobster situations. Also be mindful that Marina traffic will increase this time of year, so keep a sharp eye out when entering and exiting the Marina berths.

“That’s all for now folks!”

Last but not least, a big welcome to Krystal Farland who joined us in October as our new Office Administrator.

Relax, unwind, refresh and be safe this Summer. Wishing you all a Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and safe Boating this holiday season.

From the Board; George, Clive, Bruce, Menno

and the Marina Team; Neil, Krystal, Andrew, and Steven.
