WELCOME

The Sunday of Waitangi weekend was a glorious day spent out on the water. We returned to our berth with a good feed of cod and celebrated summer finally arriving! Mana Marina is for Boaties to enjoy such days!

I’m also very pleased that the effort Marina Team make and pride they take, is recognised. I’ve received great feedback recently about the well-kept grounds, the quality and cleanliness of the Marina facilities, and the excellent level of service we provide.

— Neil, Marina Manager

What’s new?

LOOKING SMART

It’s hard not to miss the facelift the Office and facility blocks are undergoing. Well overdue for some TLC, there’s been had some important repairs made to keep the building safe and weathertight to ensure it continues to cope with Wellington’s coastal conditions.

2021 BOATIES BOOK

We’ve got plenty of 2021 Boaties books to give away — they’re full of helpful information for travelling around NZ and visiting other marinas, with tide tables, where to get fuel, facilities info and much more. Pick one up from the Office today (or download the app — boatiesnz)

NEW RECYCLING BINS

Due to high demand, we’ve added a new set of recycling bins (glass and mixed plastic/cans) at the most southern skip area. So, plenty of recycling bins across the Marina site — please continue to make good use of them!

new marina ACCESS CARDS

It’s been a fairly smooth transition to the new access card system, over what was a very busy period with card exchanges. A huge thank you to everyone for your assistance during this time. We’ve noticed already an improvement to carpark availability over busy summer days — ensuring our current Marina users can find a spot.

STAFF UPDATE

Neil is taking a well-earned break for the month of March, and Tara will be Acting Manager in his absence. There will also be a new face joining the Marina Office over the next few months, as Tara is leaving in April to focus on her own design business.

Reminders

WASTE NOT…

We’ve received complaints about fish filleting waste being thrown into the Marina water. While the stingrays might appreciate dinner, much of the fish waste just pollutes the Marina which isn’t a great look. We realise not being able to fillet at sea creates a problem, but please consider where your waste goes and either take it home, or wrap it well and put it in the skips

Better yet — hang onto the fish frames and give this curry a go!

GOT AN OLD BATTERY TO GET RID OF?

Now you can support Mana Coastguard by donating your old car or boat batteries. Please drop these off on the deck outside the Coastguard hut (next to Mana Cruising Club).

MARINA SKIP BINS — A few reminders…

  • Break down cardboard boxes before you put them in

  • Don’t bring rubbish in from outside the Marina

  • We don’t want your old gas bottles or car tyres (from a boat??) left at the Marina skip bins. Remember, if you leave this sort of waste at the skips, you are expecting all your fellow licence holders to pay to dispose of your rubbish! If you’ve taken an old gas bottle off your boat, please dispose of it at an appropriate waste outlet such as Spicer Landfill.

  • Please use the recycling bins provided

Thank you

IS THE BALLCOCK NEAR THE ROOF?

Marina Staff monitor the oil bund, but if you notice this is nearly full (the indicator ball is near the roof), please notify the Office and we’ll ensure it’s promptly emptied.

Please also try to keep the Waste oil Station area tidy. Oil changes are messy, but there’s no need to leave old filters, containers, or rags in the drainage trough making it messy for the next user.

THIRD-PARTY LIABILITY INSURANCE

Remember to email a copy of your new Certificate of Currency to the Office when your vessel third-party liability insurance renews, and we’ll update our records with this.

LICENCE HOLDERS

Invoices for Licence holder levies have been sent and are now due for payment. Please get in touch with the Office if you haven’t received yours for some reason. Thanks to the many who’ve already paid so promptly!

CHEQUE PAYMENTS BEING PHASED OUT

As cheque payments are being phased out by NZ banks over the next few months, Mana Marina is no longer able to accept cheque payments after 1 May 2021.

The good news is that we’re getting eftpos at the Office very shortly — so we can accept payment via:

  • eftpos/debit card

  • cash

  • direct credit payments (electronic banking)

IS YOUR CONTACT INFO FOR YOUR EMERGENCY BEACON UP TO DATE?

If your emergency beacon is activated, the Rescue Coordination Centre New Zealand will try and contact you and/or your nominated emergency contacts.

Have you recently bought a new vessel, or you or your emergency contact has changed their personal contact information? If so, you’ll need to update the details registered to your distress beacon.

Please slow well ahead of entry to the Marina.

PERSONAL FLOTATION DEVICES

Last Saturday evening, Police received report of a vessel sinking. None of the four aboard the vessel had access to lifejackets. With the Police Maritime Unit as incident controller, emergency services were deployed and Eagle was first to reach the scene — NZ Police

The video below from New Zealand Police below is a great reminder about just how hard it can be to spot people in the water and the importance of wearing a PFD!

That’s it from us for now. Have a great weekend everyone and enjoy the sunshine!
