Spring News 2020

Mana Marina June 2019-1863.JPG

WELCOME

I’m very pleased that we have so many positive things to report in this newsletter. We’ve been complimented on the improvements to our facilities and the efficiency and friendliness of our service. The Maintenance Team have also made great progress with the essential work to protect our Marina for the future. Spring has brought in the usual gales, but mooring lines have held, and we’ve had no problems apart from a few noisy halyards. Finally, I‘ve just called GOfuel to tell them we’re about to send our Spring newsletter and they’ve given an immediate diesel price reduction. This Spring must be the start of enjoyable boating for all of us at Mana Marina!

— Neil, Marina Manager

What’s new?

Bathroom refresh

What a difference! The bathroom freshen up is complete with new paint, tiling and seating, and we’ve had a lot of positive comments from our regulars and visitors alike! Check out the before and after pics below.

Fuel kiosk upgrade

Signage at the fuel kiosk has been upgraded and improved in conjunction with GOFuel, and the emergency and operating information is much clearer. The spill kit is available for emergency use. Please notify the Manager in the event an emergency or if the kit seal has been broken.

SPRING SPECIAL FUEL PRICE

The diesel fuel’s now at a low pump price of $1.14 per litre! A great time to fill up.

Through-rod replacement update

Andrew and Steven have completed the through-rod and metal work replacement on F-Pier. Thanks to all the vessel owners for their patience and co-operation. You’ll see Steven progressively working on the Marina checking, replacing and protecting the rods, as part of our long-term maintenance program. We’ll contact vessel owners if boats need to be shifted as part of this.

can you spot your boat?

Heading into a new marina for the first time can often be a daunting experience and we have new visitors arriving all the time. So, we’ve put together a new video to give a great aerial visual of Mana Marina. A huge thank you to Mike Stent for the drone footage and Tara Cooney for the production. What a great Marina we’re part of — feel free to share the video!

Safety

It pays to look twice

Near-misses crossing the railway lines happen every day (see Fletcher’s story), and Kiwi Rail are reminding everyone not to get complacent. With a high number of commuter and freight trains passing through Ngāti Toa Domain, please take extra care to obey the warning signs and look carefully in both directions.

COVID-19 Level 2

While Wellington is in Level 2, please continue to register your visits to Mana Marina with the NZ Covid Tracer app by scanning the Marina QR code (at the barrier arm entry, Office or Noticeboard). Alternatively, you can log a visit via our website or at the Office.

On the water

Mana Cruising Club Yacht Racing

While it’s no Vendée Globe, it’s been great to see a number of Mana sailboats out on the water in MCC’s winter racing series, with some good competition and even better banter. The Spring/Summer series will be announced shortly and for any new (and old) sailors at Mana Marina it’s great motivation to get the boat out – contact John via john@manacc.co.nz to get involved.

Last summer’s Clean Hull workshop was so successful, Top of the South are running it again on 21 November. Held in conjunction with Mana Cruising Club and Mana Marina, it’s a great opportunity to see samples of marine pests (the one’s we’re keeping out of Mana!), learn how to get more out of your anti-foul, and enter prize draws etc. More info to follow.
